EUCAP Somalia Completes the Coast Guard, Border Police and Maritime Crimes Course

EUCAP Somalia completed the second edition of the Coast Guard Border Police and Maritime Crimes Course in Mogadishu from 17 to 27 August 2026.

EUCAP Somalia completed the second edition of the Coast Guard Border Police and Maritime Crimes Course in Mogadishu from 17 to 27 August 2026.

Following the first course held in July, the training brought together 17 additional Somali maritime security personnel: 12 officers from the Somali Police Force - Department of Coast Guard and 5 from the Somali Navy and Coast Guard, whose participation was supported through the integrated approach with EUTM Somalia.

The course combined legal and operational training on maritime jurisdiction, threats at sea, Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) procedures, evidence handling, investigative principles, human rights and the lawful use of force. Participants focused on applying these requirements in practice to support safe, structured and accountable maritime law-enforcement operations.

Bringing together police and coast guard personnel also strengthened coordination and cooperation among key Somali maritime security actors, contributing to sustainable national capabilities to protect Somalia's maritime domain.
