LIMA, Ohio (Monday, Feb. 23, 2026) - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will permanently remove access to State Route 15 from Township Road 190 southeast of the city of Findlay. The closure is a planned phase of the broader safety strategy initiated following the completion of the County Road 193 overpass last fall.
"The change is part of a long-range plan to improve safety along this busy high-speed corridor by constructing overpasses and reducing access points," said Chris Hughes, ODOT District 1 deputy director. "Motorists can use an overpass to cross over State Route 15 or access it at one of the interchanges located nearby at State Route 37 and State Route 330. Interchanges provide the safest location to access the divided four-lane highway," he said.
On Monday, March 2, barrels and barricades will be placed at the intersection to eliminate access to State Route 15. Work to remove the pavement, cut in the ditch, and install right-of-way fence will follow as weather permits.
Signs on State Route 15 and the local roads approaching the intersection will be modified to reflect the change in access.
"This project represents a true collaborative effort between ODOT, the Amanda Township Trustees, the Hancock County Commissioners, and the Hancock County Engineer's Office, all working together with a shared commitment to improving safety for our community and for everyone traveling through it," said Doug Cade, Hancock County engineer. "We are striving toward zero fatal and serious crashes," he said.
Since its original construction in the 1960s, daily traffic has risen from approximately 5,000 vehicles to over 20,000 in key sections - a four-fold increase. The access changes are essential to maintain safety and accommodate growing demand.
