State Department of Transportation to Host Two Public Open Houses Featuring Proposed Modifications for State Route 7 Traffic Calming Project in the Town of Niskayuna, Schenectady County

The New York State Department of Transportation today announced two public open houses, which will be held on Wednesday, June 24, to present proposed project modifications for the planned safety and traffic calming enhancements along State Route 7 in the Town of Niskayuna, Schenectady County.

Following a robust evaluation of community feedback received during the initial open house in April, NYSDOT has updated the project proposals. The new plans include the addition of a signalized intersection at Hickory Road with crosswalks and enhanced pedestrian accommodations. These upcoming sessions provide residents, business owners, and commuters with a direct opportunity to view these new project proposals and offer additional feedback.

Both open houses will be held on Wednesday, June 24, at Niskayuna Town Hall, One Niskayuna Circle, Niskayuna, NY 12309, at the following times:

· Morning Session:11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

· Evening Session: 4 to 6 p.m.

The project continues to focus on the State Route 7 corridor between Saint David's Lane and Mohegan Road, aiming to reduce operating speeds and enhance safety for all users. Core proposed measures include narrowing travel lanes to 11 feet, adding 4-foot-wide striped shoulders, installing intermittent, raised landscaped medians, along with the added signal-controlled intersection and pedestrian safety features.

Community feedback remains a vital part of the design process. Those attending either session can view updated conceptual illustrations and speak directly with NYSDOT staff members, who will be available throughout both time slots to answer questions and gather input.

During construction, a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
