Transit Safety Continues During Back-to-School Season

As students return to school, the Winnipeg Police Service will be increasing uniformed officer presence across Winnipeg Transit routes. Starting Tuesday, September 8, expect to see WPS officers riding on buses and patrolling near transit stops, including bus shelters and stations along major school routes.

Every September, our city experiences an increase in transit ridership as students and workers return from summer holidays. In anticipation, the WPS and the City of Winnipeg are taking steps to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and exciting back-to-school season. The focus will be on main routes that feed schools and Winnipeg's core. These locations are based on historical data where we see increases in bus ridership during this time.

These activities are part of the Winnipeg Police Service's ongoing transit safety initiative meant to promote safety and security for Winnipeg Transit users. All transit activities are rooted in prevention and protection, aiming to foster a transit system that is welcoming, reliable, and secure for all Winnipeggers.
