CONGRESSMAN MOYLAN CALLS FOR INCREASED FEDERAL SUPPORT FOR GUAM'S STUDENTS IN COMMITTEE HEARING

(Washington, D.C.) Amid growing concern on island regarding the future of the Guam Department of Education (GDOE), Congressman Moylan raised critical questions during a House Education and Workforce Committee hearing today with U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon.

As the federal government considers major structural changes to the U.S. Department of Education, including its planned closure, Congressman Moylan stressed the importance of protecting education services for students in Guam and other U.S. territories. He emphasized the need for tailored support for territories, where limited resources and geographic isolation already place significant strain on education systems.

"As federal policies undergo major shifts, we must ensure that no student is left behind,"said Congressman Moylan. "Guam's students deserve equitable access to quality education, and GDOE must continue to receive the support it needs to serve our island effectively."

The Congressman highlighted several key challenges facing Guam, including a shortage of special education professionals and the need to better prepare students for high-demand careers. During the hearing, Secretary McMahon committed to further, in-depth discussions on how the U.S. Department of Education can support Guam's students.

Congressman Moylan is hopeful that continued discussions with Secretary McMahon can result in a mutual commitment to safeguarding the essential resources the Guam Department of Education requires to effectively serve students in Guam.

"Our teachers at GDOE do incredible work with limited resources. I will continue advocating to ensure they have the tools and support they need to empower the next generation of students."Congressman Moylan added.

Congressman Moylan looks forward to continuing the work to advance practical solutions that reflect Guam's unique needs to secure vital support for its education system.
