Excurio’s Large-Scale VR System, LBXR Pulse, Named Among Fast Company’s 2026 Next Big Things In Tech Honorees

The Annual List Recognizes Emerging Technology Breakthroughs Poised To Shape The Future

Tuesday, October 6th - Today, immersive entertainment pioneer Excurio is proud to announce that its proprietary large-scale VR system, LBXR Pulse , which redefines how shared immersive experiences are created, managed, and operated, has been named a Fast Company's 2026 Next Big Things in Tech honoree.

This annual recognition highlights new technology breakthroughs that are helping define the future, spotlighting innovative products, services, research, and technological efforts with meaningful cultural and business impact.

LBXR Pulse makes free-roam, multi-user virtual reality scalable, profitable, and accessible to mass audiences for the first time. Purpose-built for collective exploration and storytelling, the platform delivers three breakthroughs that elevate immersive entertainment to a new standard and address the challenges that have long constrained the VR entertainment sector: low throughput, rigid space design, and limited content rotation.

The platform can host over 130 participants simultaneously, ten times the capacity of traditional VR systems and a world record for free-roaming VR, making high-quality, shared VR economically viable at scale. Its multi-content management system also allows multiple experiences to run in parallel within the same physical space, enabling audiences to choose from several adventures at once while giving operators the flexibility and revenue potential of a cinema multiplex in a single room. LBXR Pulse can also adapt to irregular or historically significant spaces, such as domes, museums, or venues with architectural constraints, without requiring extensive on-site testing.

"Being recognized by Fast Company is an incredible honor and an important validation of what we set out to achieve with LBXR Pulse," said Fabien Barati, CEO and co-founder of Excurio. "We believe immersive entertainment has the potential to become a truly mainstream form of entertainment, but getting there requires technology that can welcome audiences at a much greater scale. With LBXR Pulse, we've built a platform that removes many of the barriers that have historically limited location-based VR and gives operators and creators the tools to bring ambitious immersive experiences to more people, in more places around the world."

Currently, the platform is being used in 40 venues across 17 countries and has welcomed over 5M visitors to experience free-roaming VR. Earlier this year, Excurio formally opened LBXR Pulse to external creators, studios, and IP holders, transforming the platform from an internal technology into a global infrastructure for immersive entertainment.

Two industry leaders in immersive experiences, PHI Studio and Felix & Paul Studios, were among the first companies to adopt the product, launching "Space Explorers: The ISS Experience." Additionally, Fever's productions "Machu Picchu: Journey to the Lost City" and "Starstruck," created in partnership with the Smithsonian, have launched on LBXR Pulse.

Looking ahead, Excurio is accelerating the growth of LBXR Pulse as a global platform for location-based virtual reality, bringing together premium content, cutting-edge technology, and an expanding international network of venues (on track to reach 50 across five continents by early 2027). With a growing catalog of experiences from third-party studios, LBXR Pulse is positioning itself as a leading platform and content destination for operators seeking world-class immersive programming at scale.

The platform's momentum will continue with an ambitious pipeline of new Excurio productions, including The Republic of Pirates, launching this November, followed by a slate of Immersive Expeditions inspired by legendary and iconic franchises beginning in 2027, underscoring Excurio's vision to build a powerful worldwide ecosystem for the next generation of location-based immersive entertainment.

As the company continues to grow, Excurio remains focused on advancing the possibilities of immersive entertainment and creating experiences that can connect audiences with stories, places, and ideas in entirely new ways.
