San Joaquin County - Caltrans will soon begin construction of the Interstate 5 Mathews Road Interchange Improvement Project that will help mitigate current and projected traffic impacts associated with the recently-opened Richard A. Pittman Veterans' Administration outpatient clinic and living center located in French Camp.
The project proposes to install interconnected traffic signals at four intersections, modify sidewalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and modify turn lanes to accommodate Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) trucks and projected traffic volumes.
Modifications will be performed at the following intersections:
This $14.45 million project is entirely sponsored by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) under the VA Appropriations for Major Construction from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) National Capital Assets Realignment for Enhanced Services (CARES) Plan.
Work will be performed by Pacific Infrastructure Constructors, Inc. (Vacaville, CA) and is scheduled for 130 working days beginning October 16, 2026, with completion expected in April 2027.
