Lake Tahoe Construction Project Updates

Placer/El Dorado County - Caltrans is advising motorists of various lane closures next week due to multiple construction projects in the Lake Tahoe region.

Paving operations are scheduled on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe between Wildwood Avenue and Midway Road Monday, October 27 through Thursday, October 30 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Work is also scheduled Friday, October 31 from 7 a.m. until noon.

Paving, drainage and utility work is completed for the season in Tahoe City along State Route 28 (SR 28). This $31.7 million Caltrans pavement rehabilitation project will continue next spring and summer between Tahoe City and Kings Beach on SR 28. The contractor for this project is Mercer Fraser Company of Eureka.

The $10.6 million Fanny Bridge project continues with drainage and utility work scheduled for next week. The bridge deck pour is now finished. The new Fanny Bridge is scheduled to reopen to all traffic in late November. During this project, traffic will detour onto Lake Boulevard bypass to access State Route 89 (SR 89) and SR 28. West Lake Boulevard remains open for business and transit center access with only the Fanny Bridge being closed. The pedestrian and bicycle path across the Truckee River Dam will remain open throughout the project. The project is led by the Federal Highway Administration and the contractor is Thompson Builders of Novato.

Broadband utility work is scheduled along SR 28with one-way traffic control in effect in Kings Beach between the Bear Street/Brook Avenue roundabout and the Raccoon Street roundabout Sunday, October 26 through Friday, October 31 from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Additional work is scheduled along SR 28with bi-directional traffic in effect between the Raccoon Street roundabout and the Nevada state line Monday, October 27 through Friday, October 31 from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Along SR 89 in Placer County,utility work is scheduled from 8 a.m. Monday, October 27 through noon Friday, October 31 between South Street and Fern Street in the Homewood area.

Along SR 89 in El Dorado County, drainage inspection work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect between the Alpine County line and Big Meadow Creek Tuesday, October 28 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, availability of equipment or materials, or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
