Deputy Director-General of the International Economic Affairs Department meets with the Director of the OECD's Global Relations and Cooperation Directorate

On 26 September 2024, Ms. Rujikorn Saengchantr, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, met with Mr. Andreas Schaal, Director of the Global Relations and Cooperation Directorate of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the sideline of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment and readiness to drive forward Thailand's Accession Discussions, and discussed the preparation for the upcoming visit to Thailand by the OECD Secretary-General and way forward to promoting cooperation between ASEAN countries and the OECD.

Thailand submitted a letter of intent to become OECD member in February 2024. On 17 June 2024, the OECD Council resolved to open the Accession Discussion with Thailand, leading to intensive engagement between Thailand and the OECD with the view to aligning Thailand's policy and regulations to OECD standards, particularly in the areas of economy, investment and business, environment, transparency and good governance, and education and innovation. This will help enhance Thailand's competitiveness and improve the quality of life of the people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Economic and Social Development Council are the main agencies to move forward Thailand's accession to the OECD.
