Announcement – Election of the CNPD as co-chair of UNESCO's GNAIS

30/01/2026 • International

The National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) is pleased to announce its election as co-chair of the Global Network of AI Supervisory Authorities (GNAIS), an international initiative launched by UNESCO to strengthen global cooperation in the supervision of artificial intelligence.

This new responsibility reflects recognition of Luxembourg's active role and expertise in promoting AI governance based on respect for fundamental rights and ethics.

The GNAIS, officially launched on 26 June 2025 at the 3rd Global Forum on AI Ethics in Bangkok, is a global platform bringing together public authorities responsible for supervising artificial intelligence systems. The network aims to strengthen institutional capacities, promote international cooperation, and support the exchange of practices, tools and specialised training to ensure the responsible development and use of AI.

As part of this mission, the CNPD will co-chair the network alongside the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA), the Saudi national authority responsible for data and artificial intelligence.

This co-presidency marks an important milestone for the CNPD, confirming Luxembourg's position among those committed to building a coherent, reliable and ethical international framework for artificial intelligence.

The CNPD would like to thank the members of the network for their trust and looks forward to contributing, together with all its international partners, to an ecosystem of responsible, transparent and human-centred AI governance.
