Some "plane people" decide to go through a ceremony to become honorary Newfoundlanders, which involves kissing the cod. In the back row are Jeff Chamberlin, Caleb Dixon, Matt Wilkerson, Elise Van Dyne and Michon Chandler. In the front row are Benjamin Achoka, Joel Allée, Alex Gumm and Lynette Gardner.

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company invites the community to experience an unforgettable evening of storytelling, music and heart with its production of "Come From Away," which opened May 8 at the Carson City Community Center.

Set in the days following the events of September 11, 2001, "Come From Away" tells the remarkable true story of thousands of airline passengers stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. What began as a moment of uncertainty quickly transformed into an extraordinary display of compassion, generosity and human connection, as strangers became neighbors and a global tragedy revealed the very best of humanity.

Blending powerful emotion with moments of humor and hope, the musical has been widely praised for its uplifting message and moving portrayal of resilience in the face of adversity. Audiences can expect a deeply meaningful theatrical experience that resonates long after the final curtain.

"'Come From Away' is a powerful reminder of the resilience and compassion that define us, even in the most challenging moments," said Western Nevada College President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. "I am inspired by the remarkable talent showcased in this production and by a story that continues to foster connection, kindness, and understanding. Western Nevada College is honored to share this meaningful experience with our community."

Performances continue at the Carson City Community Center on May 14, 15 and 16 at 7 p.m.; and May 16 and 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $28 for adults and $25 for students and seniors, plus a $5 ticketing fee. For ticket information, call 775-339-7399.

"Come From Away" is generally recommended for ages 10 and older and is comparable to a PG-13 film, containing mild language and emotional themes related to 9/11.

Spend an evening at the theater and experience this powerful reminder of kindness, connection and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
