Draft Forest Land Use Plan

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry and Fire Protection (DFFP) gives formal notice per AS 38.05.945 that the Division proposes to adopt a site-specific Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) under AS 38.05.112 and the administrative standards of AS 41.17.060 for the commercial timber sale: Young Negotiated Timber Sale, Harvest Units 9-10 (NC-1783-T).

This timber sale is in the Tanana Valley State Forest approximately 14 miles southwest of the community of Tok. The legal description of the sale area is Township 16 North, Range 12 East, Sections 7, 8, 17, 18, and 20 of the Copper River Meridian (CRM). Access to the sale area is along the Tok Cutoff Highway near Mile Marker 110.

The two harvest units total 66 acres and contain approximately 1,482 CCF of spruce sawtimber and approximately 350 CCF of spruce fuelwood/pole timber. This volume will be sold under the provisions of AS 38.05.118, in the form of one sale.

The FLUP is intended to provide the best available information regarding the proposed timber harvest on 66 acres, and the management of other non-timber uses in compliance with AS 38.05.112 and AS 41.17.060 and must be adopted by the DFFP before the proposed activity can occur. This FLUP does not determine whether or not to access and sell timber within the timber sale area, nor the method of sale. Those decisions have been made previously on June 27th, 2023 with the Best Interest Finding and are not appealable under this FLUP.

The public is invited to comment on the FLUP. Comments can be submitted by mail or by email using the contact information listed below. Comments must be received at the Division of Forestry & Fire Protection office no later than May 21st, 2026, in order to be considered in the adopted FLUP.
