On Monday, September 29, Mr. Ogushi Masaki, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry participated in the Sri Lanka Business Forum, which was attended by H.E. Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
State Minister Ogushi delivered remarks at the Sri Lanka Business Forum hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan-Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee (JSLBCC), and others. In his address, he presented the Conceptual Roadmap on Building an Export-Oriented Industrial Corridor formulated jointly by METI and JETRO, and expressed the intention to resume bilateral vice-ministerial-level economic policy dialogues.
In addition, President Disanayaka delivered the keynote address, while Mr. Ishiguro Norihiko, Chairman of JETRO, and Mr. Kobayashi Fumihiko, Chairman of JSLBCC, delivered additional speeches.
During the Forum, Mr. Shimano Toshiyuki, Director of the Southwest Asia Office of METI, explained the Conceptual Roadmap on Building an Export-Oriented Industrial Corridor, which aims to both promote trade within the South Asian region by leveraging its significant market size and to facilitate Sri Lanka's participation in global supply chains. Subsequent presentations by companies described case examples of exporting products from Sri Lanka to India along with future prospects. A policy was shared to coordinate efforts among relevant countries in the region to contribute to the Economic Region Initiative of Indian Ocean-Africa announced at TICAD 9 through the promotion of trade within South Asia and encouraging Sri Lanka's integration into global value chains in line with the Conceptual Roadmap.
