New Mural Brightens Downtown Hillsboro's 2nd Avenue

A new mural in Downtown Hillsboro brings vibrant color and local imagery to the south wall of Active Chiropractic & Wellness on 2nd Avenue - a highly visible location and a prominent backdrop of Downtown events and markets.

Created by regional artist Emily Kepulis, the mural titled, Twilight in Hillsboro, was selected for Hillsboro's 2026 Mural Idea Project following a joint application from Emily and the Active Chiropractic & Wellness team.

Inspired by Hillsboro's natural landscapes, the mural depicts the rolling hills and valleys stretching toward the Coast Range.

"I want to represent the abundant wildflowers, as well as the orchards and vineyards," said Emily. "When people walk past this mural, I'd love them to feel a sense of home, joy, and familiarity, since this represents the landscapes of the area."

Hillsboro's 2027 Mural Idea Application

The Mural Idea Project helps bring new murals to Hillsboro by connecting artists, property owners, businesses, community organizations, and others with funding and resources.

Anyone may apply to:

• Suggest a potential mural location.
• Request help connecting with an artist, property owner, wall, or other resources.
• Request up to $20,000 to support a mural project.

Proposed murals must be located within Hillsboro. Applications are reviewed annually by City staff and community members based on the proposed location, community impact, artistic quality, feasibility, accessibility, and more. Priority may be given to highly visible locations in the Cultural Arts District or historically underserved areas.
