On the occasion of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani expressed his appreciation to all the women who work at the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Italian diplomatic network, who are the daily protagonists of our country's international action, for their contribution.
"I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the women working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both in Italy and abroad, who, through their professionalism, expertise and spirit of service, ensure the smooth running of our diplomatic service and help to strengthen Italy's presence and prestige around the world," said the Minister.
Women diplomats now account for around 25 per cent of the diplomatic service. The 2024 diplomatic competition was also characterised by a significant female presence, who accounted for 46 per cent of the successful candidates: with 22 female and 26 male successful candidates, this is the highest figure ever recorded.
In recent years, the number of women in the diplomatic service has grown steadily. Meanwhile, at the initiative of Minister Tajani, there has been an increase in the number of female diplomats heading particularly complex and strategic foreign network offices, as well as holding senior positions within the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
