Merkley: Immediate Action Needed to Reopen Federal Government & Provide One-Year Extension of Health Care Tax Credits

Washington, D.C. - Today, Oregon's U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement on a path forward to immediately reopen the government and guard Americans from devastating increases in health care costs:

"Now is the time to break the impasse and immediately reopen the government. In the last few days, millions of Americans - including thousands in Oregon - have gotten notice of their health care costs more than doubling. At the same time, Trump has attempted to cruelly hold back SNAP benefits for hungry families and inflict pain in any way he can dream up.

"I call on all my colleagues to support our plan to immediately reopen the government by passing the Continuing Resolution with a one-year extension of the tax credits folks rely on for affordable ACA health care coverage. Now is the time for leadership and to deliver lower costs for all Americans-in red, blue, and purple states."
