Aug. 1 picnic, resource fair to support parents of young kids

Join us at George Florence Mini Park from 1-3pm. Connect with breastfeeding support and health resources. Enjoy healthy picnic food and fun activities.

Berkeley families, especially those who are expecting or have children under 5, are invited to attend our free picnic. Get free tools and personal consultation to help you with chest- or breastfeeding.

Open to all families, this picnic will provide free food, connection to health resources, and community bonding.

Meet staff from our Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. WIC supports low-income people who are or were recently pregnant and children under 5. You can get free food, lactation counseling, diapers, and more through WIC.

The whole family will also have a variety of activities to enjoy-including book giveaways and a raffle.

Free healthy food, activities, and resources

Get information from more than 20 local organizations at our health fair, including the City's Oral Health and Immunization Programs, The Baby Book Project, and the YMCA.

Connect with resources to help you give your baby a healthy head-start through breastfeeding. Get free breastfeeding gifts, like nursing pads, hand pumps, and nursing covers. We'll even have a certified Lactation Consultant on hand to help you with breastfeeding questions.

Enjoy activities for the whole family, including:

  • Children's activity station and playground
  • Line dancing
  • Raffle with prizes including tickets to the Oakland Zoo, Children's Fairyland, and more
  • Community photo station

George Florence Mini Park is accessible via AC Transit #52. You can also walk from North Berkeley BART.

Nutrition and breastfeeding support for young families

This event is organized by the WIC Program, under the City of Berkeley's Health, Housing and Community Services Department, Public Health Division.

If you are pregnant or care for a child under age 5, you may be eligible for the Women, Infants and Children's (WIC) Program. The WIC Program offers low-income parents:

  • An EBT card to buy food high in protein, calcium, iron, and vitamin C
  • Nutrition and lactation education for pregnant, postpartum, and lactating parents
  • Breastfeeding counseling, an electric pump loan program, and lactation classes
  • Referrals to free or low-cost medical, dental, social services, and other related resources

This picnic is one of many events offered through the West Berkeley Family Wellness Center to support our community's wellbeing. The center offers activities such as yoga and movement classes and a weekly food pantry. Find upcoming events on our calendar.

Join other young families on Friday, August 1. Get advice for nursing your child, sign up for WIC, or just enjoy the picnic.
