BLM completes final review for Morongo Valley broadband expansion project

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management has released its final environmental assessment and land use plan amendment for the proposed Morongo Canyon Highway 62 Multi-Tenant Wireless Broadband Communications Site. If approved, the project will enhance telecommunication and broadband connectivity for Morongo and Yucca Valley communities in San Bernardino County.

The proposal by InterConnect Towers LLC includes constructing and operating a communications site on about two acres of public land, along with an access road and related facilities. The project includes construction of an access road and telecommunications facilities. To proceed, the BLM would need to amend the California Desert Conservation Area Plan.

The proposed project supports Executive Order No. 13821 - Streamlining and Expediting Requests to Locate Broadband Facilities in Rural America, by providing reliable, modern, high-speed broadband connectivity to the Morongo Valley.

The final documents are available for public review, with a 30-day public protest period and 60-day governor's consistency review beginning today.
