For immediate release: September 11, 2025

The Kansas City Health Department is excited to announce the recipients of the 2025 Food Safety Excellence Award. This honor highlights food establishments that have gone above and beyond in ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and education of their operations.

To earn this recognition, establishments successfully passed rigorous health inspections throughout 2024, meeting or surpassing the standards set by the Kansas City Food Code and other public health regulations.

"Our goal at the Kansas City Health Department is to ensure that citizens are safe from food-borne illness when enjoying Kansas City's local establishments. We are proud to award those food establishments that have gone above and beyond to show the same compassion and safety for citizens that we display daily through Public Health," said Kansas City Health Department Director Dr. Marvia Jones.

The recipients met a stringent set of standards and award criteria set forth by the Health Department. This prestigious award is being presented to 15% of permitted food service establishments in Kansas City.

This year, 536 local businesses were awarded the Food Safety Excellence Award. The recipients represent a broad spectrum of food establishments, including restaurants, fast-food chains, school cafeterias, hospitals, nursing homes, bakeries, convenience stores, and grocery stores throughout Kansas City.

With over 10,000 inspections conducted annually, the Kansas City Health Department remains committed to safeguarding the health of residents and visitors by ensuring safe food practices.

The Food Safety Excellence Award is valid for one year and reflects the cumulative results of inspections throughout 2024. Only a select group of permitted food service establishments are able to meet the high standards required for this prestigious award.
