The City of Charleston held the first in a series of meetings last night to discuss the proposed 2026 Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Referendum and begin identifying the city's priority projects for inclusion.
During Tuesday's Traffic and Transportation Committee meeting, Mayor William Cogswell and City Councilmembers focused on Johns Island and James Island roadway projects, including safety improvements, congestion relief, and critical infrastructure needs.
The discussion marked the start of a broader process to define the city's transportation priorities across all areas of Charleston. Over the next several weeks, the committee will continue reviewing project needs through a combination of regularly scheduled and special meetings, each centered on a specific geographic or thematic focus.
