San Juan Regional Medical Center Announces Winning Mural Designs to Transform Pediatric Emergency Care

San Juan Regional Medical Center is excited to announce the winning mural designs selected by our community to transform four Emergency Department exam rooms into welcoming, child-friendly spaces. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the community voting campaign. Every vote cast and every dollar donated helped bring this vision one step closer to reality while supporting pediatric emergency care for children in our region.

The four designs that had the most votes are: Whisper Woods, Stories Take Flight, Up, Up & Away and Bubble Town. These whimsical murals will soon come to life on the walls of our exam rooms to create a comforting and engaging environment for children and families during emergency visits.

Local artist and CEO of Inspire heART Christy Clugston is already hard at work on the first of the four murals, marking the start of an exciting transformation that reflects the community's commitment to supporting young patients.

While the murals are an important milestone, they represent just one part of a larger vision. The San Juan Medical Foundation continues to raise funds for the Pediatric Emergency Department Project, an initiative designed to enhance pediatric-focused emergency care and better meet the unique needs of children in our community.

"Community support plays a vital role in bringing this vision to life. Every contribution helps create an Emergency Department where children receive expert medical care in a space designed to reduce fear, provide comfort, and promote healing," said Pediatric Unit Manager Melanie Stout.

In addition to funding the hand-painted mural rooms, donations will help provide specialized equipment and comfort items that support both exceptional clinical care and a positive patient experience, including:

• A high-fidelity pediatric manikin for advanced staff training
• A GEM rapid analyzer to provide fast, bedside lab results

• Teddy bears to comfort young patients during their visit
• Pediatric hospital gowns to help kids feel brave and at ease
• An Inspiration Station stocked with art and crafts supplies for drawing, painting and connecting through art
