City of Irvine Joins National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation April 1-30

Mayor Larry Agran has joined mayors across the country for the National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation by asking the Irvinecommunityto make a long-term commitment to manage water resources more wisely.

The annual challenge, which takes place April 1-30, is a nonprofit national community service campaign presented by theWyland Foundationthat encourages leaders to inspire their residents to make a series of simple pledges at mywaterpledge.com(link is external)to use water more efficiently, reduce pollution, and save energy.

"I am proud to support the 2025 Wyland National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation and invite all Irvine residents to join me in taking simple, meaningful steps to protect one of our planet's most precious resources - water," said Mayor Agran. "In Irvine, sustainability is not just a goal - it'sa way of life. Through responsible water use, pollution prevention, and community action, we can make a powerful impact that benefitsour environment today and for generations to come. Iencourage every household in Irvine to take the pledge this April and help us lead by example in showing how individual actions, when multiplied across our community, can create lasting change. Together, we can make Irvine - and our nation - more water-wise, resilient, and environmentally responsible."

Cities with the highest percentage of residents who take the challenge in their population category win the title of most water-wise city in the nation. Pledge takers have a chance to win environmentally-friendlyprizes and $3,000 toward their home utility bills.

The Wyland Foundation has also created a digital tool called MyVolunteerWater Project, in support of the program, which provides residents with a unique way to engage in hands-on home, community, and workplace projects year-round, contributing toIrvine'ssustainability efforts. The more projectsresidents do throughout the year, the better chance Irvine has towin the mayor's challenge.
