On 29 April 2026, the Armenian delegation composed of the Special Envoy of the Armenian Presidency of the Conference of the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 17), Ambassador Mher Margaryan and the Armenian Ambassador to China Vahe Gevorgyan participated in the Green and Sustainable Development Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held in Ningbo, China.
A video message by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan was delivered at the forum. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed Armenia's willingness to promote cooperation with China and the SCO in the areas of sustainable development and environmental protection, and, in that context, referred to the UN Biodiversity Conference scheduled for October in Yerevan.
At the panel discussion entitled "Conserving Global Biodiversity through Multistakeholder Governance", Special Envoy Margaryan, reflected on the preparatory work of the Armenian Presidency ahead of COP17. Recalling a historic milestone of the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework during China's Presidency of COP15, he mentioned that a key priority in course of the upcoming biodiversity conference will be the Global Review of Collective Progress in implementing Global Biodiversity Framework, which is intended to serve as a practical mechanism to identify gaps, mobilize support and guide implementation.
Within the framework of the event, the Armenia delegation also had meetings with the Minister of Environmental Protection of China, Huang Runqiu, the Mayor of Ningbo, Tang Feifan, as well as had a media briefing on the topic of the COP 17 biodiversity conference.
