Georgia State Senior Associate Provost Appointed to APLU Committee on Faculty Affairs

ATLANTA - Georgia State University Senior Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs Corrie L. Davis (Ph.D. '08) has been selected to serve on the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities' (APLU) Committee on Faculty Affairs. Her three-year term will begin at the APLU Annual Meeting in November and conclude in November 2029.

The Committee on Faculty Affairs, or CFA, operates within APLU's Council on Academic Affairs and advises the council on matters related to university provosts' responsibilities for hiring, managing, promoting, evaluating and supporting faculty. Its work addresses topics including tenure, term faculty, dual-career positions, post-tenure review, faculty workload and accountability, and matters involving performance management and conduct.

As a committee member, Davis will participate in meetings throughout the year, contribute to analysis of current faculty affairs issues and trends, and help identify and share effective practices and policies. She will also contribute to the committee's development of resources for faculty affairs professionals and will help develop programming for its annual business meeting and Faculty Affairs Retreat.

APLU represents more than 250 public research universities, land-grant institutions, state university systems and affiliated organizations across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The association brings university leaders together to advance public higher education, with work focused on student success, research and innovation, and community and economic engagement. APLU also advocates for and supports federal policy issues affecting public and land-grant universities.

At Georgia State, Davis leads work related to faculty recruitment, success, retention and support. She develops and facilitates professional development for faculty and administrators, manages faculty awards, assists with promotion and tenure, co-leads university mentoring initiatives, manages the faculty grievance process and supports department chairs, associate deans and deans. Davis also serves as the lead administrator for Georgia State's implementation of the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) faculty job satisfaction survey process, a multiyear effort administered through the Harvard Graduate School of Education that gathers faculty feedback to inform improvements in the faculty experience.

Davis joined Georgia State in 2021 as director of faculty development and was permanently appointed associate provost for faculty affairs in February 2023. She served as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Clayton State University in 2024. Before joining Georgia State, Davis held leadership positions at Kennesaw State University, including department chair of Inclusive Education and interim associate dean for Diversity and Community Engagement. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Delaware State University and a master's degree in special education and behavior disorders from West Virginia University. She earned her Ph.D. in educational policy studies, with a concentration in research, measurement and statistics, from Georgia State.

Davis holds an academic appointment as professor of cultural and behavioral science at Georgia State's Perimeter College.
