The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Oregon announces publication of the Draft Watershed Plan-Environmental Impact Statement (Plan-EIS) for the Central Oregon Irrigation District (COID) Pilot Butte Canal (PBC) Infrastructure Modernization Project in proximity of Redmond and Bend, Oregon.
The purpose of the COID PBC Infrastructure Modernization Project is agricultural water management through irrigation water conservation in COID infrastructure, improvement of water delivery reliability to COID and North Unit Irrigation District patrons, and reduction of long-term operation and maintenance costs on approximately 18.5 miles of the COID-owned PBC. The project is needed to address watershed problems and resource concerns including water loss in COID conveyance systems, water delivery and operations and maintenance inefficiencies, including risks to public safety. Implementation of the proposed action would address COID's objectives and goals to reduce seepage loss and provide better-managed water diversions for farm use, support agricultural land use, and increase public safety.
The public meeting is scheduled for March 17, 2026. The comment period closes March 31, 2026.
