Service Alert: Republic Services Collection Delays Due to Work Stoppage
UNION CITY, CA, July 8, 2025 - Union City's waste hauler, Republic Services, is currently impacted by a labor action involving drivers who began a work stoppage on July 8 in support of Teamster members nationwide. The work stoppage is causing significant disruptions to residential and commercial waste collection across Union City, Newark, and Fremont.
As a result, the following collection services will be delayed for Union City residents and businesses:
- Landfill (garbage) collection for all residents, apartments/condos and businesses
- Recycling and compost collection for apartments/condos and businesses that have these services collected by Republic Services
N ote: Compost and recycling services provided by Tri-CED Community Recycling will not be impacted. Please set out all Tri-CED recycling and compost carts out on the regularly scheduled pickup day.
The City anticipates that collection services will resume in 1-2 days. We will continue to provide timely updates as more information is available. We appreciate the community's patience and understanding.
