Elevating the future, together: A community conversation for Door and Kewaunee counties

A cross-section of community, education, and industry leaders came together at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College's Sturgeon Bay Campus to discuss the region's workforce needs and explore new ways to collaborate for a stronger local economy.

The conversation - built upon previous listening sessions and a part of a larger ongoing dialogue - set the stage for continued engagement between NWTC and local partners. Rather than focusing on short-term solutions, participants shared community updates, upcoming initiatives, and long-term goals that will guide future collaboration and strengthen Northeast Wisconsin's workforce and economy.

"Community connection is central to how we operate as a college," said Jennifer Flatt, NWTC vice president of Student Affairs. "When we bring local voices to the table, we gain the insight needed to shape programs, partnerships, and resources that truly serve our region. These conversations help us stay connected to the people and priorities that drive the way we live out our mission."

The conversation connected leaders and organizations from across Door and Kewaunee counties to share ideas, challenges, and opportunities. Representing various sectors such as local government, business, education, and more; attendees discussed community needs - including workforce development and youth engagement - and explored how partnership and innovation could drive long-term solutions. Throughout the discussion, participants emphasized a shared commitment to ensuring that access, connection, and innovation remain at the heart of NWTC's partnership with the community.

"This gathering is just the beginning of something powerful. The ideas and energy shared today are the seeds of future partnerships and progress," said Tammy Brunette, K-12 pathways and community impact coordinator at NWTC and the college's representative for the Door and Kewaunee Counties. "Every voice - from educators and employers to community leaders - plays a vital role in shaping the future of Door and Kewaunee counties. Together, we can expand access to education and workforce opportunities that strengthen our region."

As the conversation concluded, one message resonated clearly: the power of collaboration extends well beyond the roundtable and NWTC remains committed to listening, learning, and partnering with the community. NWTC will continue this work by hosting roundtables and partner engagement opportunities in the future.
