On 23 April 2026, Dr Ruan Zongze, Chinese Consul-General in Brisbane was invited to attend the unveiling ceremony of the Portable St George Chinese Community Memorial and delivered a speech. More than 40 people were present, including St George Chinese Community Memorial Committee(SCCMC) chairman Alan Chen, Ms Julie-Ann Campbell MP, Member for Moreton, Hon Fiona Simpson MP, representing Premier David Crisafulli, Hon Steven Miles, Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Consul-General Ms LI Suyun and members of Queensland Parliament as well as representatives from the local multicultural community.
Dr Ruan said that the Chinese community has been one of the pioneers of Australia, making significant contributions to the local development as a vital part of Australia's multiculturalism. He hopes that the friendship between the Chinese and Australian peoples will take deep root and flourish. Recently, China made a four-point proposition on safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. China stands ready to work with Australia to inject positive energy into regional peace and stability.
Other speakers highly praised the contributions of the Chinese community to Australia's economic, social and multicultural development.
