Ibrahimović opens Montenegro’s Embassy Office in Luxembourg

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel officially inaugurated the Office of the Embassy of Montenegro to the Kingdom of Belgium, based in Luxembourg, reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthening their friendly and partnership-based relations.

In his remarks, Ibrahimović described the opening of the diplomatic office as an important step forward in bilateral relations and a new platform for intensifying political dialogue, strengthening economic cooperation, and fostering closer ties between the institutions and citizens of Montenegro and Luxembourg.

He noted the special symbolism of the occasion, as it takes place in the year marking 20 years of diplomatic relations between Montenegro and Luxembourg, as well as 20 years since the restoration of Montenegro's independence. Over the past two decades, the two countries have built relations based on mutual trust, respect and close partnership, providing a solid foundation for further cooperation.

Ibrahimović thanked Luxembourg for its consistent and strong support for Montenegro's European integration, describing it as a reliable partner that firmly supports the EU's merit-based enlargement policy and recognises Montenegro's reform progress.

It is encouraging to know that Montenegro has a reliable partner in Luxembourg that believes in our European future, Ibrahimović said, reaffirming Montenegro's full commitment to implementing reforms and achieving its key foreign policy objective of full membership in the European Union.

Speaking about future cooperation, he highlighted significant potential for strengthening economic relations, particularly in the fields of energy, tourism and financial services, as well as expanding cooperation in culture and education. He also underlined the importance of joint action by NATO Allies in addressing complex geopolitical challenges through the promotion of peace, security and effective multilateral cooperation.

Ibrahimović paid special tribute to the Montenegrin diaspora in Luxembourg, describing it as a bridge of friendship, trust and mutual understanding between the two countries.

He stressed that the new diplomatic office will serve Montenegrin citizens by providing consular and administrative services while further strengthening their ties with their homeland.

Bettel welcomed the opening of the office, noting that Montenegro is the first Western Balkan country to establish a diplomatic representation in Luxembourg, demonstrating the importance it attaches to strong bilateral relations. He also reiterated Luxembourg's full support for Montenegro's European integration, expressing confidence that, as the most advanced candidate country, Montenegro will become the next member of the European Union.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, institutions of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the political, business and cultural communities, members of the Montenegrin diaspora, and friends of Montenegro.
