WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) released the following statements after their provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) directing the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide an updated assessment of schools on military bases was signed into law enabling new schools in temporary housing to become eligible for consideration as permanent facilities.
Upon passage,Sen. Cruz said, "This provision paves the way for Laughlin Air Force Base's Roberto Barrera Elementary STEM Magnet School to be assessed, ranked, and considered for future construction funding. This move is a top priority for the Del Rio and Laughlin Air Force Base community. I am proud to support educational opportunities for the children of our servicemembers."
Sen. Cornyn said,"I am proud to champion legislation alongside Senator Cruz to designate the post office in Bastrop, Texas, after Sergeant Major Waugh, a decorated combat war veteran and eight-time Purple Heart recipient who dedicated five decades of service to our country. Now that this bill has passed the House, we are one step closer to renaming this facility in his honor, which will serve as a reminder of his impressive legacy and lifetime of service for generations to come."
