The third annual UToledo Healthcare Symposium focused on the gift of life from organ donation

Health professionals gathered in downtown Toledo on Friday, April 10, to learn about living kidney donation and explore recent innovations in renal transplantation.

The event featured multiple experts from The University of Toledo and UToledo Health, as well as a keynote address from Dr. Mona Doshi, a University of Michigan nephrologist.

Dr. Charles Callahan, executive vice president for health affairs, greeted symposium attendees Friday morning.

Keynote speaker Dr. Mona Doshi, a nephrologist from the University of Michigan, discussed the current state of living donation in the United States and how a living donor match can expedite the waiting process for patients awaiting a kidney transplant.

Dr. Obi Ekwenna, a UToledo Health transplant and urologic surgeon, spoke about his experience in robotic kidney transplant procedures and highlighted organ transplant success stories from the UTMC transplant program.
