Berkeley Research Group’s Privacy Incident Impacts BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Members

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Roughly 1650 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST) members have been affected by a data security incident involving information maintained by Berkeley Research Group, LLC (BRG) . BRG is a global company that provides consulting, advisory, and expert support services to law firms and other clients. BRG supported BCBST and other Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans in a legal dispute and received member information for that purpose.

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee learned of its members' involvement in this incident on Dec. 15, 2025. BRG's data analysis took several months to identify impacted members. To date, BRG reports no evidence of fraud or identity theft related to this incident. The data accessed varies by member. Potential elements include:

• Member ID and group number

BRG is notifying impacted members directly with individualized information.

On March 2, 2025 , BRG detected suspicious activity within its network. Following an investigation with leading cybersecurity experts, BRG determined that an unauthorized actor briefly accessed its systems between February 28 and March 2, 2025 , and copied certain member information.

Upon discovering the incident, BRG acted quickly to secure its systems, implemented enhanced threat detection, rotated credentials, and rebuilt affected environments under expert guidance. BRG has seen no further suspicious activity and is coordinating with law enforcement and regulatory authorities.

As a precaution, BRG is offering 2 years of Kroll's complimentary identity monitoring services including credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration. Eligible members will receive enrollment instructions and a unique membership number by mail. BlueCross encourages members to be vigilant and to monitor their credit reports.
