Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Scheduled to Celebrate Completion of U.S. 63/36 Interchange in Macon County

HANNIBAL - The public is invited to help celebrate the completion of the interchange and intersection safety improvements at the U.S. Route 63, over U.S. Route 36 interchange in the City of Macon. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 10 a.m. at the Sydenstricker Nobbe Partners dealership lot, located in the northeast corner of the interchange at 1810 North Missouri Street in Macon . Limited parking will be available adjacent to the ceremony.

The interchange improvements are expected to be mostly complete when the signal lights are activated as early as Monday, August 31, 2026. The remaining finish work will be minor and will not be impacting traffic.

Work on the project began in early February with bridge rehabilitation work. Contractor crews with Magruder Paving, LLC have worked diligently over the course of the project to complete several phases of the work ahead of the scheduled completion date. Major improvements at the interchange included the U.S. 63 bridge rehabilitation, U.S. 36 off-ramp realignments and turn lane improvements at the ramp terminals, traffic signal and lighting upgrades at the U.S. 63 and Bus. 36 intersections, and safety improvements at Kellogg Avenue median crossover.

"This project was designed to meet the unique needs of this location, improving traffic mobility and providing reliable interchange capacity for the future," stated Area Engineer Emily Edgar.
