Kansas City Launches New Online Hub for Mental Health Support
The free, confidential site connects residents
to mental-health tools and resources
For Immediate Release: Friday, February 27, 2026
The Kansas City Health Department has launched a new online hub to make it easier for residents to access free, confidential mental health support.
The website, kcmo.gov/mentalhealth, brings together digital tools that help residents assess substance use habits, access 24/7 recovery support, find caregiver guidance, and explore self-guided wellness resources. These tools are designed to provide private, convenient support whenever it is needed.
Between 2024 and 2025, nearly 650 residents participated in a citywide survey to better understand the community's mental health. The survey examined symptoms, access to treatment, loneliness, social media use, and sleep patterns.
Results from Kansas City's 2024 Mental Health Survey show many residents are experiencing emotional distress, feelings of isolation, and difficulty accessing care. High levels of nervousness, restlessness, severe sadness, and loneliness were reported. At the same time, many residents cited barriers such as cost, limited information, and insurance restrictions as reasons for not seeking help.
These findings underscore the importance of accessible, easy-to-use tools that offer private, round-the-clock support.
"The survey data makes it clear that many people in our city are dealing with emotional stress and barriers to care," said Alex Francisco, PhD, Chief Science Officer for the Kansas City Health Department.
"Access to mental health support should never be complicated or out of reach," said Dr. Marvia Jones, Director of the Kansas City Health Department. "By offering these tools for free, we're removing barriers and ensuring that residents have trusted, easy-to-use resources that can help them take the next step toward wellness-whether that's for themselves or for someone they care about."
The Kansas City Health Department offers several tools and resources to help residents with mental health needs and their supporters.
The ePrevention screening tool provides a fast and anonymous way for residents to assess how alcohol or drug use may affect their lives. It uses short, clinically informed questions to help people reflect on their habits and receive guidance or referral options based on their results.
The Connections App offers 24/7 peer support for residents in recovery, exploring recovery, or seeking additional help between provider visits. The app includes daily check-ins, virtual meetings, peer discussion forums, and tools available in both English and Spanish.
For caregivers supporting loved ones with mental health or substance-use challenges, the Companion App provides guidance and organizational tools. It provides a community of people with shared experiences.
The CredibleMind app is a self-guided online platform offering trustworthy mental health information and tools. Residents can explore videos, lessons, exercises, and personalized recommendations. Residents can explore all tools and additional recovery resources at kcmo.gov/mentalhealth.
