The U.S. had 15.2 million recreational boats in use in 2025, down 0.8% from 2024. Registered and documented boats accounted for 76.9% of boats in use, the highest share in the series dating to 2012.

Florida led the nation with 1.2 million registered boats, accounting for 10.1% of U.S. registrations. The Great Lakes remained the largest region, though registrations declined year over year. Growth was strongest in inland and Southwest areas, with the Southwest leading regional gains. Utah, Oklahoma and Arizona saw some of the strongest state-level growth, while California added the most registrations of any state.
