COLUMBUS - State Rep. Heidi Workman (R-Rootstown) is pleased to announce that Portage County was recently awarded $230,000 through the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program to tear down unsafe, blighted buildings and prepare those sites for new opportunities. To date, approximately $99,000 of these funds have been utilized, with additional projects expected to move forward.
House Republicans secured $21.5 million per fiscal year in the State Budget for the program, spurring economic development across Ohio.
"This funding is a meaningful investment in the future of Portage County," said Workman. "By removing unsafe, blighted structures, we are not only improving the safety and appearance of our communities, but also creating space for new development, job creation, and economic growth. I'm proud to support initiatives like this that help our local communities thrive."
The Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program was created by the 134th General Assembly and has proven successful in helping spur economic development and revitalizing properties throughout the state. Since 2021, the program has invested more than $310 million to support nearly 6,200 demolition projects across every county in Ohio.
