CDC informs clinicians of available testing for suspected hantavirus infection

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a Health Alert Network Health Update May 18 informing clinicians about testing available for patients with suspected hantavirus infection to include Andes virus. This follows a CDC advisory issued May 8 regarding an outbreak of Andes virus on a cruise ship. Andes virus, a type of hantavirus that is endemic in South America, is the only hantavirus known to spread from person to person. The CDC update includes several recommendations for clinicians.
