SBU Student Affairs Named Most Promising Place to Work – Again

Stony Brook University's Division of Student Affairs staff attending the 2025 NASPA Annual Conference.

For the first time ever, Stony Brook University's Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) has been named "Most Promising Place to Work" for two years in a row.

Along with the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the EDU Ledgerhas released its annual report for "The Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs." As indicated by its title, this report identifies the top 30 colleges and universities nationwide that are considered to be the most promising for Student Affairs employees this year. Stony Brook received this honor last year in 2025, but the university joins the prestigious list once again for 2026.

Stony Brook President Andrea Goldsmith, Vice President for Student Affairs Rick Gatteau, and other senior leadership from the Division of Student Affairs.

While it may be the first instance of SBU achieving this feat for two years back-to-back, DoSA has received this recognition multiple times previously, including in 2023, 2018, and 2015, plus an honorable mention in 2022. Focusing on "staffing practices and work environment" according to the EDU Ledger and ACPA, the annual report is organized via a web-based survey to analyze a variety of categories, including but not limited to: family friendliness, salary/benefits, and professional development opportunities.

"It really is such an honor to once again be recognized for the hard work of our Division, even more so two years in a row," said Vice President for Student Affairs Richard Gatteau. "It validates our continued efforts to cultivate a workplace where employee well-being, retention, and balance are priorities. That strong foundation directly enhances the support and care we provide to our students."
