Application Period Open for Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) Program at NETL

NETL has announced that the application window is open for the summer 2026 Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program, a paid 10-week summer internship program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Applications are due by 5 p.m. EST Jan. 7, 2026. Access to the online application system is available here.

SULI encourages undergraduates from both two- and four-year colleges and post-baccalaureates and graduate students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by offering research internships at one of the 17 DOE National Laboratories.

In this comprehensive internship, participants are mentored by a leading science expert who will guide them in a specific research area to gain maximum exposure to one of the many science and technology areas that underpin DOE's mission. This is an opportunity for interns to enhance their professional network and develop interests in state-of-the-art research facilities.

SULI will be offered at NETL's Albany, Oregon; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Morgantown, West Virginia, locations. The program includes a stipend, housing assistance, travel assistance and technology allowance.

To be eligible, participants must: be U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old at the time of appointment; be a current associate, bachelor or master-level student enrolled full-time in a STEM program at an accredited college/university; a recent graduate within the last two years; have completed at least one semester as an undergraduate student at the time of application; have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and able to provide proof of health insurance coverage prior to starting.

Interested candidates can apply through the SULI online application system. On the application, candidates must select "National Energy Technology Laboratory" to be chosen for NETL opportunities.
