A public hearing on the proposed changes to water and wastewater impact fees occurs during the May 20 City Council meeting. Any member of the public has the right to appear at the hearing and provide input in support of or against the updates.
Why it matters: Impact fees recover a portion of the costs for regional water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure necessary to serve the projected 10-year water demands from new development. This helps reduce the cost of these growth-related capital expenditures on existing customers, thus minimizing rate increases.
The big picture: Under consideration are updates to the Land Use Assumptions Report, Capital Improvements Plan and the assessment and collection rates. The City's Water and Wastewater Impact Fee Program would:
By the numbers: Based on these recommendations, the combined water and wastewater impact fee for a typical residential meter (5/8-inch x 3/4-inch) would increase to $5,504 on Oct. 1, 2025, and to $5,828 on Oct. 1, 2026. Currently, the combined fee for this meter is $3,777.
