NIB today launched a renewed mission and strategy, with a stronger focus on resilience, security and defence. The launch coincides with a seminar marking NIB's 50 years of operations. The seminar is being live-streamed from the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki.
Starting operations in 1976 to finance projects of Nordic interest, the Bank has for the past two decades focused on the productivity and environmental progress of the Nordic-Baltic region. Now, intensifying global competition, climate change, and geopolitical risks require a broader response.
"For fifty years, NIB has adapted its financing to the needs of the region it is serving. This ability to evolve has enabled the Bank to remain a relevant and trusted partner to its member countries through every era," said André Küüsvek, President and CEO of NIB. "Today, the challenges of competitiveness, sustainability and resilience can no longer be addressed separately. Prosperity underpins security, security safeguards prosperity, and both ultimately rely on a livable environment."
NIB's renewed strategy is built on three interdependent mission pillars -competitiveness, sustainability and resilience. Resilience means the region's capacity to withstand, adapt to and recover from disruptions and crisis and, where possible, avoid them. This has been added to reflect the growing interdependence of security and prosperity, both essential to achieving a prosperous and sustainable Nordic-Baltic region.
In fulfilling NIB's renewed mission, the strategy is to operate from the strength of a AAA/Aaa-rated international financial institution, to invest in our people and digital capacity, to deliver impact, reliability and added value to clients, investors and owners.
You can watch the NIB 50th Anniversary seminar programme and live-stream from the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki today, starting at 13.30 CET here.
