Rep. Chip Roy Demands Answers from AEP Transmission and CPS Energy on Proposed Transmission Line

Washington, D.C. - Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) demands answers from AEP Transmission and CPS Energy on the proposed routes of the Howard-Solstice Transmission Line project that would cut through the Texas Hill Country.

"One of the proposals for the transmission line would run straight through Bandera County and Real County, both of which offer stunning landscapes and help make up the Texas Hill Country. The delicate nature of the Hill Country in Texas requires careful stewardship and boasts one of the most beautiful areas in the nation. Naturally, residents of these counties are concerned with the aesthetic impacts these lines pose, the environmental risks that might be posed by the proposed routes of the transmission lines, and the potential threat of eminent domain being invoked across a historic landscape that so many call home.'" Rep. Roy wrote in a letter to Michael Harris of AEP Transmission.

"Equally troubling are the economic consequences this project could bring to the region. Tourism is the lifeblood of the Hill Country economy, with visitors drawn by open vistas, natural beauty, and rural southwestern character. Outfitters, lodging establishments, summer camps, and local small businesses all depend on a steady stream of visitors who come to enjoy the recreation and unique heritage. The large-scale construction of transmission lines poses a threat to the economic ecosystem that the local community relies on for jobs and tax revenue." Roy explained further.
