Weight Restriction Placed on Barton Co. Route V Bridge Northwest of Lamar

Barton County - Signs indicating a weight limit of 25 tons for single unit vehicles will be installed for a bridge on Barton County Route V approximately 1.6 miles west of Missouri Route 43 northwest of Lamar, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The new load posting, which does not affect tractor trailers, came about during the department's regular bridge inspection process to analyze load limitations, which have been updated per Federal Highway Administration guidance.

The small, slab-type bridge is rated as fair and was built in 1954. The new weight limit will be in place until the bridge is replaced, which is at least 10 years in the future.

Currently, there is no weight restriction in place for this bridge. The legal maximum weight limit for vehicles in Missouri is 45 tons.

Approximately160 vehicles travel across the structure each day.
