PETERSBURG, VA - Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin visited the future site of the Petersburg's Animal Care and Control site to present $21,875, which represents half of their 4th quarter salary, to the Partnership for Petersburg Fund at the John Randolph Foundation in support of the Petersburg Animal Care and Control facility. The Governor and First Lady's salary donations have supported a variety of Virginia nonprofits, reflecting their commitment to giving back to the Commonwealth's communities and causes that uplift and strengthen Virginia families.
"Virginia is for animal lovers, and in Petersburg we are taking the next step forward so even more Virginians can experience the love and joy that our four-legged friends bring," said Governor Glenn Youngkin. "The First Lady and I are honored to make this contribution in support of a great mission that will help meet an earnest need here in the Petersburg community."
"Caring for animals reflects the heart of a community," said First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin. "Creating a place for animals to find safe keeping and adoption ensures the wellbeing of both humans and four-legged friends; while building on positive change through the Partnership for Petersburg."
The new 14,000-square-foot building is expected to cost around $5 million. The Governor and First Lady's donation will help fund the facilities operations, such as food, water, and other amenities for the animals.
"The new Petersburg Animal Care and Control facility will fulfill a vital need in our community, and it stands as a testament to what we can achieve through strong partnerships," said Vice Mayor Darrin Hill. "The generous contribution from the Governor and First Lady emphasizes a shared dedication to animal welfare and directly supports Petersburg as we continue to address community needs."
