Henderson Police Kick off Newly Awarded Joining Forces Grant With Pedestrian Safety Campaign

Grant Supports Traffic Safety Enforcement and Education Efforts

HENDERSON, Nev. (Oct. 19, 2026) - The City of Henderson Police Department began its Pedestrian Safety Campaign on Oct. 11, made possible by the newly awarded 2027 Joining Forces grant.

The Henderson Police Department received a $175,000 grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety - Office of Traffic Safety to support participation in the "Joining Forces" traffic safety campaign, running from October 2026 through September 2027.

As part of the current Pedestrian Safety Campaign, which runs through Oct. 31, Henderson Police are joining forces with other Southern Nevada law enforcement agencies to heighten enforcement at intersections and crosswalks.

Tips for Drivers

  • Yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks-marked or unmarked.
  • Stop well back from crosswalks so others can see pedestrians.
  • Never pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk. They are stopped to allow pedestrians to cross the street.
  • Remain stopped until pedestrians finish crossing your lane or reach the median.

Tips for Pedestrians

  • Use sidewalks and stay clear of traffic.
  • Put away phones and earbuds while walking.
  • Never assume a driver sees you; make eye contact before crossing in front of them.
  • Be cautious at driveways and traffic exits.
  • Give drivers time to stop-at 35 mph, it takes about six seconds.
  • Cross at crosswalks or intersections where drivers expect you.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional statewide effort designed to promote roadway safety and increase awareness of Nevada's traffic laws. The program supports enhanced enforcement and education campaigns targeting distracted and impaired driving, speeding, seatbelt use, and pedestrian safety.
