Edinburg PD launches Safety Sticker Program to support individuals with medical conditions and disabilities

Edinburg, TX- The Edinburg Police Department is proud to announce the launch of a new Safety Sticker Program designed to enhance officer awareness and response during interactions with individuals who may have medical conditions or disabilities.

The free program provides specially designed window decals for homes or vehicles that discreetly alert first responders that a person on the premises or in the vehicle may:

  • Be Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Have Diabetes
  • Live with Alzheimer's or Dementia
  • Be Autistic or Have Other Developmental Disabilities

"These safety stickers are a small tool with a potentially life-saving impact," said Police Chief Jaime Ayala. "They help officers respond with greater care and sensitivity by providing critical information the moment they arrive on scene."

Developed in collaboration with the department's Mental Health Unit and local advocates, the stickers are color-coded and easy to display on a vehicle's driver-side window or a home's front entry. The program is entirely voluntary and free to the public.

Stickers can be picked up at the Edinburg Police Department headquarters, located at 1702 S. Closner Blvd. Residents may also call (956) 289-7700 for more information.

"Our goal is to ensure that every resident - regardless of their needs - feels seen, respected, and protected," said Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. "This program is another step toward building a safer and more inclusive Edinburg."

The City of Edinburg encourages caregivers, families, and individuals to participate in the program and learn more about how the stickers can assist in emergency situations.
