Dexter to Speaker Johnson: “Get out of the way and call a vote today.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, at a press conference with the Democratic Women's Caucus, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03), called on Speaker Mike Johnson to hold a vote to extend the Affordable Care Act's enhanced premium tax credits before sending Congress home for the year. This comes as four House Republicans joined Democratsin using a procedural move known as a discharge petitionto force a vote on the House floor within seven legislative days.

"I did not spend 20 years saving lives in the intensive care unit to come to Congress and sit back while Republicans strip healthcare coverage from millions," said Dexter."Despite a majority of the House supporting a clean extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits, Mike Johnson is standing in the way of the will of the people. My message is simple: get out of the way and call a vote today."

If Speaker Johnson refuses to extend ACA tax credits before the end of the year, health insurance costs will skyrocket for at least 22 million Americans, including 111,000 Oregonians. This comes just months after Republicans cut federal Medicaid funding by $1 trillion to fund tax breaks for billionaires.
