Fun, Fitness, and Family Are Headed to Wilmington Neighborhoods All Summer Long
WILMINGTON, DE - The City of Wilmington is proud to announce the return of Wilmington Play Streets [wilmingtonde.us9.list-manage.com], a beloved summertime tradition dedicated to building healthier, safer, and more connected neighborhoods-now held in loving memory of former Councilwoman Rysheema J. Dixon.
This year's events are made possible through the support of the Department of Parks and Recreation [wilmingtonde.us9.list-manage.com] under the leadership of Acting Director Dr. Melody Phillips, the Rysheema J. Dixon Foundation, and Council Member At-Large Latisha L. Bracy, with sponsorship from the Wilmington City Council.
A Legacy of Community Empowerment
First launched in 2011 by Rysheema Dixon, Play Streets temporarily transforms neighborhood blocks into car-free zones filled with fun, fitness, and community spirit. These free events give families safe spaces to gather, children room to play, and neighbors a chance to connect and build stronger relationships.
"Rysheema was a tireless advocate for creating spaces where all children could feel safe, supported, and celebrated," said Council Member Bracy. "It's an honor to continue her legacy by bringing Play Streets back to our neighborhoods once again."
Summer 2025 Schedule
Play Streets will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday from July 8 through August 26 across Wilmington neighborhoods:
