Living Carbon has entered into long-term carbon removal offtake agreements with Symbiosis Coalition members Meta, Google and McKinsey.
Through the agreements, the Symbiosis members have contracted over 130,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide removal from Living Carbon over a period of 10 years.
Orrick advised Living Carbon.
Living Carbon is a public benefit company combining end-to-end operational expertise with rigorous science to transform underutilized landscapes into high performing climate assets while removing carbon at scale.
The Living Carbon project will plant native tree species on former mine lands and degraded agricultural lands in the Appalachian region to facilitate natural regeneration and deliver measurable carbon removal. The project will improve soil and water health and enhance biodiversity.
In addition, the project offers new economic development opportunities. Landowners who partner with Living Carbon receive lease payments for otherwise unproductive and highly degraded lands.
The deal structure represents a model for scalable financeability in the carbon removal space, demonstrating how long-term offtake commitments from major corporate buyers can underwrite nature-based climate projects and unlock investment at scale.
The Orrick team is led by Lana Le Hir with valuable support from Gil Shefer.
