Heat Advisory Starting July 22: City of Glendale Urges Energy Conservation and Opens Cooling Center

Glendale, CA - A Heat Advisory has been issued for Glendale from Wednesday, July 22, at 10:00 AM through Monday, July 27, at 8:00 PM. The City is urging residents and businesses to take precautions to stay safe, conserve electricity, and utilize available City resources during the heat event.

Forecasts for Glendale indicate the hottest temperatures are expected Thursday, July 23 through Saturday, July 25, 2026. In response, the City will activate four cooling centers during that period to provide residents with a place to cool down. The City will continue to monitor weather conditions and forecasts and will reevaluate cooling center operations if high temperatures persist or conditions change.
Prolonged high temperatures will increase demand on Glendale Water & Power's (GWP) electrical system as air conditioners are expected to continue running both day and night. GWP crews are closely monitoring system conditions and taking proactive steps to maintain reliable service throughout the heat event.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to conserve electricity, when possible, particularly during periods of peak demand. Simple actions, such as delaying the use of major appliances until the evening, adjusting thermostats, and turning off unnecessary lights and electronics, can help reduce strain on the electrical grid.

Heat Safety Tips
  • Avoid outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, generally between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher).
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Reduce strenuous activity and stay in the shade whenever possible.
  • Avoid heavy meals during periods of extreme heat.
  • If you do not have air conditioning, visit a cooling center or another air-conditioned location.
  • Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade.
Know the signs of heat-related illness. Symptoms of dehydration and heat cramps include dizziness, fatigue, fainting, headaches, rapid heartbeat, muscle cramps, and increased thirst. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention or call 911.
